No permits for portable generators are required by the Town of Greenburgh. That said, you are encouraged to have a licensed electrician provide the hookup, using an appropriate power transfer switch from the electrical panel to the generator. In all cases, homeowners must follow the instructions that come with the generator.
In addition, Winding Ridge HOA has established the following requirements:
The homeowner is responsible for any issues arising from the installation and use of a generator. If you plan to install??? a generator, portable or standby, you must notify your insurance carrier prior to use for specific instructions and provide the HOA with documentation that your insurance company’s coverage requirements, if any, have been met. Send the documentation to Hudson North Management, 1053 Saw Mill River Road, Ardsley, NY 10502 to the attention of Rose Pilla.
Homeowners have the option of installing a natural-gas standby generator. Several forms and permits are required by the Town of Greenburgh: a Steep Slope Clearance form must be approved by the Engineering Department, a Wetlands Clearance form approved by the Department of Community Development, and finally three application forms must be submitted for a building permit. Homeowners must use a Westchester County licensed electrician and plumber who must also file for permits. The maximum decibel level is 65 dba. The Town requires a drawing of the location on the site plan, plus setbacks to the property lines. They also require a list of the specifications of the generator the homeowner purchases. Documentation that it has been properly installed must be presented to the HOA, c/o Rose Pilla, Hudson North Management prior to use.
